Pancakes
After moving to Lexington, and getting my own place, I continually talked about getting a dog. However, my job doesn't allow me to be home much during the day, and with long hours, it wouldn’t be fair to the dog. Never considering myself a "cat lover," I finally decided that a cat would be the best option for my lifestyle.
After numerous visits to the Lexington Humane Society I found a 3 year old, full blooded Himalayan. What can I say....I fell in love.
He had been brought in by a family who had too many animals, so they decided to give him up. He was already de-clawed in the front, and neutered when he arrived. I can't imagine why anyone would have given him away, but I'm so thankful they did. Considering his fat and fluffy figure, I felt no better name for him than...Pancakes.
I cannot even begin to explain what this little guy has brought to my life. Two months after I adopted him, I unexpectedly lost my brother to cancer. There were many days I couldn't bring myself to get out of bed, but I did because of Pancakes. The rest of the day when I wanted to lay in bed and be sad, he was right there laying with me. And my non "cat lover" feelings you ask? Well, they melted away in a second. I've heard people say that when you adopt a pet, they will thank you by enriching your life forever. I truly believe that to be true, and I challenge you to adopt today. Submitted by Tiffany
Molly & Bailey
I have adopted two animals from the Lexington Humane Society....
The first one was Bailey (AKA a cat but she doesn't know that). Bailey is full of personality. She definitely isn't one of those cats that just lays around the house and is happy as long as you feed her. She is my constant shadow and follows me wherever I go. She loves attention and meets me at the door every day when I get home. When I put my key in the door I can hear her meowing and then she runs to the kitchen and gets her treat. She has truly enriched my life.
My other success story is Molly, a little wired haired Jack Russell. She is the epitome of a cuddle bug. She is also my constant companion and goes everywhere I go. She has many friends in downtown Lexington and we are known to frequent the outside restaurants and pubs. If I don't bring her the first thing they ask is " Where is Molly?". Actually that is what I'm asked whenever I don't have her with me. She loves to go play with her Jack Russell and Lab cousins in the country and is starting to get comfortable in her own skin. She even plays with her sister Bailey and the both take turns chasing each other through the house. I could sit, laugh and watch them for hours. I have learned though that they both hate thunderstorms and Bailey seems to feel secure if she sleeps right on top of my head while Molly squeezes as close as she can to my side. Usually though, they are both content snuggling with me and their sister Maddy (AKA my first rescue kitty). It is quite the full house.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to have these wonderful family members
in my life. I cannot imagine being without them! They truly are my best
friends!!!!! Submitted by Sarah
Kiley
I just wanted to let you know about our LHS adopted "baby" Kiley. We got Kiley at the shelter in January of this year and she has been the light of our lives ever since. She is a beautiful yellow lab with the personality of angel. She is calm, loving, and so smart. She was a perfect fit for our family and we love her very much. She has also brought some spark back into the lives of our 17 year old cat (a stray kitten) and our 14 year old dog (also a shelter puppy), Emma. Emma has taken back the role of lead dog in the house and is trying to teach Kiley her manners. It is wonderful to see her moving around like she is a puppy again. Thank you for all that you do for the animals in your care. When you take care of the abandoned, helpless, and homeless animals of this world, you do the work of angels. Keep up the great work and thank you for bringing joy to our family. Submitted by Ralph and Sara
Murphy
I wanted the
chance to tell you all how much we love our dog, Murphy. We adopted him from
The Lexington Humane Society a few weeks ago, but now we couldn’t imagine our
home without him. He is so well behaved, and he knows lots of tricks! He loves
to play, but he is also fine with occupying himself if needed.
He is so fun
to be with and well behaved, I can’t imagine why someone would have given him
up. Wherever they are, I’m sure they miss him terribly. Thank you to the Lexington Humane Society for
giving us the opportunity to help out by giving a homeless pet a new home. He
has added so much to our lives as well. I’ve been telling anyone I know to go
to you all to adopt a pet. Hopefully more people will begin to help out and
discover how rewarding it can be to be a pet owner! Submitted by

Millie
I had been thinking about
getting a dog for a long time, but never followed through with it. My friend
finally convinced me that I should adopt instead of buying one, so I made a
trip to the Lexington Humane Society. I walked into the
“puppy room” and looked into the first cage. There was “Daisy”, the most
precious Beagle mix with the biggest brown eyes I had ever seen. I instantly fell in love. She was so cute and
playful! We went into the Get Acquainted room and Daisy instantly jumped up
onto my lap. Right then and there I knew that she had to be mine! I texted my
father a picture of Daisy because he was a big proponent of me getting a dog.
He said that he already loved her by looking at her picture, so that was that –
Daisy was going home with me! I have since re-named her Millie, and she has been the best thing that has ever happened to me!
She is so loving, cuddly, and funny. Every time I say “let’s go to grandma and
grandpa’s” she jumps at the door and wags her tail. She absolutely loves my mom
and dad. She sleeps with me every night and has really made my life much
happier. It wouldn’t be the same without her around!! Thanks so much LHS for
giving me my precious angel! Submitted by Meredith Boarman
