Beezer & Truffles
Beezer and Truffles came to me when they were about 4-weeks old, and just learning to eat solid food.  Truffles got her name because at meal times she resembled a pig rooting for truffles in the ground, and they both got bathed several times because they ended up covered in food.  When it was time for them to be returned to the shelter and be placed up for adoption, I had scheduled to bring them in one afternoon.  Around lunchtime that day I got a call from the shelter Adoptions Manager asking me what time I was planning on bringing my kittens in.  She had a young man at the shelter looking for a kitten and he wasn't finding the right one there.  I described my fosters to him and he was interested, so I loaded them up and brought them to the shelter right away.  I spent some time telling him about the kittens, their personalities and characteristics, and how well they got along together and enjoyed playing with each other.  He liked them both, and although he said he planned to eventually get a second cat, he only wanted one at that time.  He decided on the male kitten and filled out the paperwork to adopt him.  I guess his new owner spent the whole night thinking about the two kittens, and decided that he couldn't split them up.  The next morning he called as soon as the shelter opened and asked them to put Truffles on hold for him.  He adopted her that afternoon, and the next day he brought both kittens to their forever home with him.

He sends me periodic updates on their progress, and some pictures of them at around 6 months of age.  I was so pleased to see them, now named Briggs and Bella, still enjoying each other's company, and totally charming their owner with their antics.  There is no greater reward for a foster parent to know that you gave these babies a head start and helped prepare them for their happily ever after lives.  Submitted by Ellen.

Doodle
Doodle was in the first set of foster kittens that Lori received in July 2004. She was around 6 to 7 weeks old and just needed to gain some weight. I named her Doodle (and her brother Dandy) after Yankee Doodle Dandy since it was around July 4th. This picture shows Doodle's first trip outside. The concrete was warm and she had a good time watching the birds. She was smart enough not to try and stalk the birds, since they were bigger than she was! Submitted by Lori

Bonnie Blue
Bonnie Blue was a foster kitten in September 2004.  As you can tell, she is part Russian Blue.  She was named after Rhett Butler's daughter (he called her his little Bonnie Blue) in Gone with the Wind. She is a very sophisticated kitten who spent a lot of time primping and believed that the flowers were delivered to her. The foster parent never told her any different of course. She just couldn't believe that there was a nice red cat toy attached to the front just for her! Submitted by Lori

Cleo

Cheryl had a friend that wanted a black and white kitten. When she called to see if we had any foster babies, she was pleased to hear that there was a liter with two black & white kittens. When it came time for the adoption, her husband had become very attached to Cleo, and was reluctant to give her up. Her new family; Larry, Mary, Sarah, and Chris are now very attached to her and describe her as very affectionate and loving. Submitted by Cheryl

Wyatt

I had to go to PetSmart yesterday after work to pick up some items. I can never just pick up an item and leave; I always have to go visit the animals and see if I recognize any familiar faces from the Humane Society. As I approached the kitties, I overheard a couple discussing whether they should adopt or not. I casually looked over and noticed that they were holding an orange and white tabby. Who just happened to be Wyatt, one of my last fosters. I grinned really big and made a happy sound and the couple looked over at me. I got a little embarrassed and announced that he was one of my recent fosters.

The couple said that they had picked him out of the cage because he was getting beaten up by the two calicos that he was in there with. (Geez, I thought I taught him better than that.) They began asking questions about his behavior and whether he talked a lot and his use of the litter box. I bragged on Wyatt, not just because I wanted to see him adopted, but because he really is a sweetie pie. I explained how Wyatt was named for Wyatt Earp because he was a little bowlegged and had a mustache. The man smiled and said that they had a 2-year-old cat at home whose name was Jesse... Jesse James. I think that that was the final sale, because they told me that they had decided to take him. Wyatt has a new home and it was such a treat to meet his new parents! Submitted by Lori

Dandy

Dandy is a brother to Doodle (February's Pet of the Month) who was fostered by Lori Baker in July 2004. She named them Doodle (little girl) and Dandy (little boy) after Yankee Doodle Dandy since it was around July 4th. While she had them, Dandy came down with a bad infection that was treated by the Lexington Humane Society. When she brought him back, the LHS employees were surprised that he had gotten better, but knew that it was because of the Foster Care program.

The picture of Dandy was taken while he was stretched out in the sun settling in for a cat nap. Submitted by Lori
