UPDATE (3.24.20): Lexington Humane Society’s main campus at 1600 Old Frankfort Pike is closed. The LHS Everyday Adoption Center located at PetSmart in Hamburg remains open Monday-Saturday 9am - 7pm and Sunday 10am - 7pm.

While our Adoption Center inside PetSmart in Hamburg are still open, in our continued efforts to lessen the risk to our associates, only serious adopters are permitted inside the facilities at this time. This means all visitors will be required to begin the adoption process upon arrival and must be approved for adoption before visiting with the animals available. If you intend to adopt and have children, please plan to bring two adults as only one person will be allowed in the kennel area while selecting the pet you wish to have a meet-and-greet with. We are not accepting used household items as donations at this time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

At this time we are limiting nonessential activities and programs, such as Check-Me-Out, birthday parties and group tours. Administration and our Adoption Center locations will be continuing normal operations; we still have lots of pets looking for forever homes! There are hand-washing stations and hand sanitizer located in numerous places throughout our facility. All surfaces (counters, door knobs, etc.) are being sanitized every two hours. Our staff and volunteers are taking the proper precautions recommended by the CDC. As always, in the event of an emergency, we have plans in place to make sure the LHS animals still receive the utmost care.

To date, there is no evidence that companion animals and pets can be infected by COVID-19. We think this is important to keep in mind! However, as always, we encourage visitors to wash their hands before and after interacting with each pet. Just as it would be with any emergency situation, we encourage pet owners to have an emergency preparedness plan in place. This includes keeping your pets up-to-date on vaccinations, having proper identification and keeping extra supplies on hand.
