How To Get Started: Teen Volunteers (Ages 12 – 17)

Thank you for your interest in our Teen Volunteer Program!

Due to a busy season, while being short-staffed, we are implementing new, temporary protocols at Lexington Humane Society. The volunteer program is open on a limited basis - based on OUR needs and YOUR availability. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in becoming a volunteer!

We believe in mentoring the next generation of volunteers! Our teen volunteers learn to work with animals in a safe manner while being monitored at our shelter. We want to give young people the opportunity to serve their community through volunteer work with companion animals. The teens learn about the shelter environment, assist with community events, and participate in projects that help the animals and LHS such as making enrichment toys, assembling adoption literature, and event preparation, as well as spending time with our adoptable animals.

If the Teen Volunteer Program is closed and you need to complete hours for school or an organization, see below for ways to help the animals:

  • Hold a donation drive at your school or church to collect needed items for the animals; or purchase/collect items on your own. Click here to view our wish list.
  • Collect money for the animals by running a lemonade stand, garage sale, bake sale, etc.
  • Bake homemade treats for the animals and drop them off at our Adoption Center.
  • After completing any of the above tasks, please contact the Director of Community Engagement at [email protected] if you need proof of volunteer hours.
