Did you know 16% of the canines arriving at your Lexington Humane Society are seniors and 100% of them are adorable?

LHS offers senior pets a second chance at finding a forever family. For some senior pets, like Thunder, a 13-year-old Bouvier des Flandres, who arrived weighing only 49 lbs and in very poor health, forever may just be a couple of years. But we can make sure those few years are great. For others, like Mr. Rogers, an 11-year-old Shih Tzu, forever is a lot longer. No matter how long forever may be, the love and loyalty senior pets provide is worth any amount of time.

We LOVE our seniors and believe every animal deserves the chance at a fresh start, regardless of age. So, when we received a call to help with a group of senior dogs who had spent a lifetime waiting and wondering what life was like outside of a chain link kennel, we knew we had to help!

These dogs range in age from 6 to 9 and lived in outside kennels with little human contact for years. Needless to say, they were shy and nervous when they arrived at LHS, but they are blossoming thanks to the love and attention they’ve received from our staff.

There is a lot of coordination that goes into assisting with a rescue operation. Setting up transport, medical and behavioral assessments, enrichment, and medical care— a lot of hours and money spent, all while caring for the hundreds of animals already with us. But that didn’t deter us. These dogs needed us and they deserved our help. Now we need YOUR help! Please DONATE today to help us care for young and old alike.
