Thank you for your interest in joining the Lexington Humane Society’s (LHS) Teen Volunteer Program! The purpose of the LHS Teen Volunteer Program is to give young people the opportunity to serve their community through volunteer work with companion animals.

Teen volunteers play an important role in our adoption program.  Volunteers work individually with each animal to provide exercise, playtime and grooming, which in turn helps to make the animals more adoptable.  The more socialized an animal is, the more likely it is to be adopted into a family, and to remain a member of that family.

In return for their services, we feel that we have much to offer our volunteers.  As part of their experience, teens will learn proper animal care and handling, as well as how to be a responsible pet owner.  They will learn about the role of humane societies in the community and the issues facing shelters as they strive to provide care and protection for all animals.  Above all, we hope their volunteer experience will afford them the sense of satisfaction that comes from helping animals and knowing that they have made a difference.
