FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lexington, KY — [June 27, 2025] — The Lexington Humane Society (LHS) announces the upcoming retirement of President Susan Malcomb after nearly two decades of dedicated service to the organization and the animals it serves. Malcomb has been instrumental in advancing LHS’s mission, expanding community outreach, and strengthening programs that promote compassionate animal care and lifelong pet ownership.
Under Malcomb’s leadership, the organization has seen sustained growth in adoptions, foster participation, and donor support. Her tenure has been marked by a deep commitment to the welfare of animals and a focus on building lasting partnerships throughout the Lexington community.
“Susan’s impact on the Lexington Humane Society has been profound,” said Rebecca Sherman, Board Chair of LHS. “Her dedication, vision, and compassion have left a lasting legacy, and we are incredibly grateful for her years of service.”
Effective August 1, 2025, Summer Jackson will assume the role of President. Jackson has been with LHS for more than a decade, most recently serving as Vice President of Human Resources and Risk Management.
“We are thrilled to welcome Summer to this role,” said Sherman. “Her long-standing dedication and familiarity with our mission ensure a seamless transition, and a strong future for the organization.”
The Lexington Humane Society extends its heartfelt thanks to Susan Malcomb and looks forward to a new chapter under Jackson’s leadership.

About Lexington Humane Society
Founded in 1889 by J. William Sayre, the Lexington Humane Society (LHS) is a 501(c)3 organization solely dependent on private donations, grants and community support. We receive no operating support from the government or national animal welfare groups, including Humane World for Animals (formerly HSUS) or the ASPCA.
Among other things, LHS is the largest pet adoption agency in Central Kentucky, we educate the community on responsible pet care and the compassionate treatment of all animals, and we spay/neuter the pets of qualifying families at a low cost.
Simply stated, we Give Love, Teach Love, and Adopt Love.
