All too often, animals enter into homes that are unprepared for the new addition, have unrealistic expectations about a breed, or simply get in over their heads. We're here to help you work through any rough patches or to help you adjust and learn as a new or continuing pet parent.

  • If you are looking to bolster your pet care skills, visit the Adopt Love Blog or the ASPCA website for grooming guides, nutrition information, pet safety tips, and more.

It's important for owners and their pets to maintain happy, healthy, lifelong relationships post-adoption.

  • If you know you want to adopt a dog, take a look at our Breed Characteristics summary to help you think through dog breed energy levels, exercise requirements, grooming requirements, and other considerations.
  • GoodPup is a one-on-one dog training service that partners with shelters in hopes of reducing return rates. LHS adopters receive one week FREE upon activation and discounts for continued service. The training is held through an app and users can video chat with a trainer, which is convenient and easy. There is no obligation, you can cancel at any time.

If you have lost or found a pet, please report it immediately!

  • Our partner organization, Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control (LFACC), handles lost/found information and can be reached at 859-255-9033 x 233 to file a report. They also handle stray animal intake and animal surrender for Fayette County, low-cost vaccination/microchipping services, and animal-related emergencies, neglect, or abuse.
  • Petco Love Lost is a free national database featuring facial recognition technology - make sure to check this out if you have lost or found a pet!
