Kristin A. Palmgreen Spay’sTheWay Program

Due to overwhelming demand for our program, Spay’sTheWay is currently only accepting income-based applications for FAYETTE COUNTY cats and pit bull type dogs – our waitlist for cats is 5-6 weeks and for pit bull type dogs is 10-12 weeks. We recommend you contact your regular veterinarian for spay and neuter services if you need immediate assistance or for any other pets you may have.

The Kristin A. Palmgreen Spay’sTheWay program is the Lexington Humane Society’s low-cost spay/neuter service committed to reducing the number of homeless animals in and around Fayette County, Kentucky. Thousands of Lexington pet owners qualify for our services every year.

Spay & Neuter Services

Qualifying spay or neuter surgery appointments include a rabies vaccination, booster vaccination, and Fayette County pet license. Proof of income and/or address may be required for assistance.

Why Spay or Neuter?

If you have a feral or community cat on your property in need of surgery, contact Spay’sTheWay for assistance. Community cats are altered through a process called trap-neuter-return, or TNR, which compassionately reduces the homeless cat population and saves lives. Cats are humanely trapped; brought into a clinic for spay/neuter, vaccinations, and surgical ear-tip; and returned to the trapping location after recovering from anesthesia.

Nineteen years ago, Kristin Palmgreen was hired by LHS to research targeted free and low-cost spay/neuter programs and the impact they have on the number of homeless pets in a community. After extensive research and gaining the support of the LHS board, staff, and local government, she developed Spay’sTheWay, LHS’s income-based spay/neuter program serving Fayette County residents. Over the last 18 years, Spay’sTheWay has grown, evolved, and adapted to our community’s ever-changing needs, all guided by Kristin’s leadership. As a result, the program has completed 50,000 free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries focused on our community’s most at-risk animals.
