Volunteers are the heartbeat of the Lexington Humane Society. You can learn more about the many volunteer opportunities available for both and individuals and groups below.

  • All long-term volunteers are asked to commit to volunteer for at least 4 hours per month for a minimum of 6 months.
  • All in-shelter volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Individuals under the age of 16 may be interested in our kids programs.
  • Volunteers must be able to receive communication via email.

  • Please allow 3-5 business days for us to process your application. Decisions will arrive via email – make sure to check your spam folder!
  • Approved volunteers will be invited to register for volunteer orientation. Please note that the Malcomb (Old Frankfort Pike) campus and the Everyday Adoption Center (PetSmart in Hamburg) have separate orientation sessions.
  • Once you’ve attended orientation, you’ll be able to schedule volunteer shifts.
  • Volunteers play an important role at the Lexington Humane Society! We have opportunities virtually every day for volunteers to help with animal care, events, administrative tasks, and more!

Any potential LHS volunteer must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Commit to a minimum 4 hours a month for at least 6 months
  • Please note: Our volunteer program is not intended for mandated community service.

You can expect a response within 3-5 business days.

Yes! Once your application has been accepted, all new volunteers are required to attend a Volunteer Orientation, lead by our Volunteer Specialist, Liam.
