[Lexington, KY] – [03/23/2026] – Each year more than 4,000 pets find their way to Lexington Humane Society in need of loving homes. On March 28, during PetSmart Charities® National Adoption Week, Lexington Humane Society will celebrate the grand re-opening of their occupancy at the Everyday Adoption Center at PetSmart: 1945 Pavilion Way, Lexington, KY. The event will begin at 10:00 with a ribbon-cutting and remarks from Summer Jackson, president of Lexington Humane and Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities.

Adopting pets in need can bring joy, companionship and health benefits to people, and the location inside PetSmart makes adoptable pets more accessible to the local community. In this partnership with PetSmart Charities, Lexington Humane will now have space for up to 30 adoptable pets inside PetSmart. The public is encouraged to stop by the grand opening event to make connections with adoptable pets of all personalities, ages and temperaments.

Volunteers will be available to help adopters make an ideal match that considers lifestyle needs, too, from couch potatoes to running buddies. People who adopt pets during National Adoption Week (March 23 – 29) can claim VIPP (Very Important Pet Parent) status with PetSmart’s Treats rewards loyalty program, and new pet parents receive a coupon book valued at $350 and also take home a free bag of food from Hill’s Pet Nutrition to start their journey.

“This partnership has the power to change countless lives—bringing together our community, local businesses, and animal lovers to give more pets the second chances they deserve.,” said Meghan Hawkins, Director of Development at Lexington Humane Society. “As we celebrate National Adoption Week alongside our grand reopening on March 28, we invite everyone to join the fun, meet their new best friend, and be part of something truly meaningful.”

“The reopening of the Everyday Adoption Center is an exciting step for pets and people in the Lexington community,” said Patrick Bell, Director of Pet Placement Initiatives at PetSmart Charities. “Together with Lexington Humane Society, we’re making it easier for families to meet adoptable pets every day and helping more dogs and cats find the loving homes they deserve.”
