Senior & Hospice Program

Because love never grows old.

The James L. and Dee S. Campbell Senior and Hospice Program is dedicated to providing compassionate support for our beloved senior animals and those in need of hospice care.

A New "Leash" on Life

The James L. and Dee S. Campbell Senior and Hospice Pet Care Program provides support to two groups of special pets: senior animals awaiting adoption, and pets at the end of life who deserve loving hospice care.

In tribute to her late husband and in celebration of his extraordinary life and love for others, both humans and animals, Dee Campbell generously created the Senior & Hospice Program.

Through the program, senior pets are given the medical support, daily care, comfort, and love they need to thrive, whether they're waiting for adoption or nearing the end of life.

Adoptable seniors residing at LHS receive specialized medical care and extra attention to stay happy and healthy, and hospice pets enjoy loving foster homes where they spend their remaining time with dignity and warmth.

Every pet gets a cozy bed, food and treats (including prescription diets), and other comfort items, with their health closely monitored by our team and foster families.

Foster families don't pay a thing - the Campbell Family Senior & Hospice Program covers all expenses. The LHS foster and medical teams work closely with foster families to ensure the best quality of life possible.

We are deeply grateful to the Campbell family for their generosity and honored to continue to legacy of James L. Campbell.

A champion for those who need it most

from start to finish

Through this gift to launch a much-needed program for our community, I can directly save and improve lives, both the lives of the precious animals who still have hearts full of hope and the special humans who foster, giving these pets love and a happy home. By partnering with the Lexington Humane Society, I can invest in the next 100 years of even greater success with caring for the animals here. Most importantly, I can be a true champion for upholding the values that James and I share with LHS.

Program Successes

Meet a few of our program graduates, pictured below. Some are still with us, others have crossed the rainbow bridge, and every one of them left paw prints on our hearts.

A note from our president:

As a foster parent and adopter of senior and hospice dogs, including Maggie, Blue, and Theo, my life has been enriched by the love of many frosty faces and hearts of gold over the years. The incredible generosity of the Campbell family makes this possible. Thanks to Dee's compassion, pets who are in the golden years of their lives can spend their days surrounded by care and kindness.

LHS and I are thrilled to have Dee's support, and I invite you to share this meaningful experience by becoming a foster parent for a senior or hospice pet. You'll not only change their life - you'll find your own life beautifully changed, too.
